I know you've pretty much already confirmed this, but the tranny fluid in my auto burns white. And it stinks like hell. And I suggest you remove the exhaust and fully remove all the fluid residue before it gets caked on. I had a leak that was very annoying and in the time frame that I was testing to locate and fix the leak, the fluid baked right on and was quite a bitch to get it off. The lines going to and from the tranny cooler can be a problem if they aren't hooked up properly. Now, my Z is not a Nissan transmission, but I can tell you on my TH400, if you don't have a crush washer at the lines going to the tranny, it'll leak. I even bent a washer (by slightly overtightening) and that alone gave me a leak too.
