Also, your method of verifying timing is incorrect. the marks on the back of the timing covers are just for reference only, and the timing belt is not mounted to the crank pulley, its mounted to the crank sprocket, so there are more variables there.... The belt could be off at the sprocket and you would not know using that method, or the woodruff key could be missing and the pulley could be slipping and you would again not know what the actual timing of the belt is.... SO, If the engine has rotated since the belt was installed... The ONLY way to accurately determine correct timing is to count the cogs on the belt as shown here.... I don't know how you haven't bent a valve already... So Bottom line... count cogs, reset and/or replace belt and auto-tenstioner, or at least make sure it is in the 4mm spec before cranking again.
