| So I had a lifter tick at startup. My car is a 94 TT with 105K miles. So in an effort to quiet the ticking I switched to a fresh 10-40 non synthetic oil. This made no difference at all. So I tried draining a quart and adding Lucas oil stabilizer to thicken it up and add detergents. This did nothing. So I started searching and came across Z1's recommendation for quieting lifter tick. It is an agressive engine flush and hopefully clears oil passageways getting more oil to the top of the motor. I did the flush today for 12 minutes (though the container recommends 5 minutes) of idling. When I was done, the clearish flush oil was very dark. When I was draining the spent flush oil I actually had a chunk of sludge come out that cloggged the funnel I was using to collect it. Big. So then I switched to 20-50 blend oil and an oil filter with a backflow check valve. I didn't even realize that some filters don't have this feature, which in my opinion could only help the oil pressure situation. Look it up and form you're own opinion. So, after starting it and getting that new thick oil moving around it seems like the engine is "happier", meaning that it feels quieter and like it wants to rev a bit more freely. Again, this could be my imagination, but I'm just relating my results. The lifter tick is quieter for now, but I can tell that it's not gone, which I didn't really expect. I have driven it about 12 miles so far and I will leave a follow up as I get more miles on it. So I'm not sure which one of these item's contributed to the lifter quieting, but I'm sure the engine flush did something, because it certainly removed a lot of deposits from the engine. Only time will tell if it dislodged anything harmful to the engine. I'll let you know. So if you're interested in looking it up, they sell it at Z1 and it's called Heartland Xtreme clean engine flush. I called them (Z1) and they said they have used it on an estimated 400 vehicles and have had success with all but a dozen or so which showed no results. Good luck with the Ticks and please do your own research before putting anything in your engine. I am just offering my experience. -Eric
