Replacing my timing belt because I used an ebay idler when I first put the engine together and do not trust it...it was making a sound. Built engine + ebay idler = what was I thinking!? Also, the belt was slightly too tight...2mm gap.
I am re-using my oem tensioner (~5k miles) and just wanted to check if this sounded normal. For me to get a 4.25mm gap I have to place the tensioner in the loosest position. Usually I have had to tighten it against the belt just a bit on other timing belt changes. I am using a new oem timing belt. I am just wondering if it common for the tensioner to be properly adjusted when fully counterclockwise. I have given the engine plenty of rotations and time to adjust.
Thanks!
