I was under the impression if the tensioner was closed all the way on its own it was just bad. I have done afew timing belts on z's and on one i remember using the tensioner again cause kid didn't want to spend 240$ on a new one. It would pull out the the 4mm gap and piston would go right back in again. tried it several times. so how would i tell if a tensioner is actually bad?
