Message	whats the voltage across the battery terminals when you have the car running? Is your alternator toast, or it could be your battery... by slips I assume you mean it cranks but wont turn over It sounds a little harsh to be lifter tick which would be my first assumption if you havent been driving the car hence you having to jumpstart it...VTC, idler pulley possibly?
