Subject	how do you remove the steering rack assembly (silver rod) !?

Message	I tried to take it out from the side that has the end cover, which I am 99% sure that is what is needed. Anyway, every time I attempt to slide it out, I believe the center bushing (metal one) hits the end oil seal. How in the world do you get this out? I tried using a PVC pipe similar the end size of the rack/rod (1/2 ") and pushed as hard as I could, and it wouldn't come out. I tapped it with a rubber mallet..still, nothing. Any ideas?
