Cars History: I bought a 1991 slicktop Z yesterday knowing that it would turn over and sometimes start for a second, but then immediately die. The guy I bought it from said this:"A few weeks ago, the motor shut off while driving and it no longer wants to stay on. The motor turns over when I turn the key, but won't actually turn on unless the gas pedal is held completely down. Once it turns on, it stays on for a few seconds and then shuts off. The fuel filter and spark plugs have been replaced in an effort to make the car work. I believe that there is lack of spark because the spark plugs smell heavily of fuel and so does the exhaust." He also said he had pulled some lines to see if fuel was flowing, and it was. I have yet to verify for myself. At first I was thinking maybe it was the MAF or PTU. I replaced the MAF with a known working one-- no change. I checked the ECU for error codes and got 21 (PTU) and 34. The subharness connectors for the PTU (new style) were very corroded, so I went ahead and spliced the wires to eliminate the crappy connectors. I then cleared the codes on the ECU and checked it again-- CODE 55!! Great, except that when I turned the key the car turned over, started, and immediately died again. I am at a loss, any ideas? I'm kind of new at this, so even if it seems obvious, any input is appreciated!
