Message When I've been slowly driving my 91 TT through the neighborhood lately, I'll sometimes feel a sharp bang in the center of the car, usually when I'm making a turn at low speeds. So today I crawled under the car and found that the rubber in my driveshaft center support bearing has decayed and come detached from its metal bracket.

I'm pretty broke at the moment, so I'm trying to come up with the best, but also most cost effective solution. After searching the forum, it seems that about 5 years ago, the consensus was that I should replace the center bearing and also possibly replace the transmission mount. But more recently a lot of people have been recommending the 1-piece driveshafts. So, are these 1-piece units 100% reliable at this point? Or are the OEM driveshafts still slightly less troublesome?

Besides the much higher cost of a 1-piece driveshaft, my other main concern is that currently, I don't have any vibration issues at any speeds. My current OEM driveshaft works fine, other than the banging while making turns at low speed. If I spend the money to upgrade to a 1-piece driveshaft, am I just asking for vibration troubles? Is it still a reasonable idea for me to just replace the center support bearing?
