Message Previously, my key lock on the driver's door would spin nearly 180 degrees either direction - indicating the plastic rod retainer attached to the tumbler was broken/missing. This turned out to be true. I've replaced the missing piece with a used one (thanks Bernie), but can't seem to position the rod that it retains correctly in the lock level further down the door.

You can see the plastic piece I am referencing here:

[aluminum replacement part from Z1]

When positioning the rod, I can't get it anywhere near (over an inch away) the lever I believe it is supposed to connect to which activates an unlock (the same lever which has a rod connected to activated by the interior door lock). This is with both the door handle tumbler AND the door lock lever both in the most 'friendly' positions. Am I missing something? Additionally, the rod doesn't have a little green hat on it which I think is necessary to hold the rod end into the lever... True?
