A while back, I was having trouble with my Z cutting off while I was driving. I fixed the problem, but only after going through hell trying to figure it out. So I figured that even if I knew less than most of the people on here, I might as well offer some of what I learned. If you're having a problem with your Z cutting off, attempting to stay on and sputtering, and your battery always being dead after sitting overnight, here's all I tried to diagnose my problem. 1. Fuel pressure test - This helps to determine whether or not the car cutting off is a result of a fuel pump going out, busted hose, or bad wiring in the fuel system. Mine showed the appropriate amount (about 44psi) so I moved on the next thing. 2. Check ECU for codes. This is always important to do, mainly if your check engine light is on, but also since all z32s are at least 15 years old, there's a possibility that the bulb could go out on your cluster for the check engine light. My light worked and I had no codes, so onward to the next step. 3. Checking the ignition system. Spark plugs, coil packs, and the PTU were the main components I was checking, the plugs were fine, coil packs worked great, and I swapped PTU's with one that I got just to make sure. Also, checking the connectors for corrosion helps a ton. 4. Finally the charging system. The battery was new, alternator was almost new, and the culprit turned out to be the alternator pigtail. Apparently, if your pigtail is broken, or nonexistent due to someone attempting to repair it, the car will shut off as soon as it starts running over 3k rpms, and my opinion is that it has a lot to do with the amount of electricity being generated. Just trying to help. David (1990 N/A 5spd)
