Message Quick background: I bought my TT last June with 43k documented miles on the odometer and noticed that the trip meter would not reset to zero when pushed. The “wand” would simply not budge. Unfortunately, I pushed it a little too hard one day and it popped in, resetting the trip meter to zero but subsequently breaking the odometer, which no longer turned over while driving the car. After considering beating myself up Fight Club style, I immediately took the Z to Brown’s Nissan in Fairfax, VA and they agreed replacing the odometer/trip meter would be a relatively simple solution. Unfortunately, I got some unforeseen results:

1. When replacing the odometer, I was never told that the new one would have to be reset to zero and not placed back to 43k miles as I had expected. This was a little heart breaking because the main reason I bought the Z was for its low miles. Even though they’re MUCH lower now, I still have to explain to everyone who sees the Z what happened, and keep records of the old mileage to add onto the new when calculating actual mileage. Kind of a small pain in the ass. Anyone know if my odometer can be set back to its actual mileage without some shady craftsmanship of any sort? I realize people roll them back from time to time but I’d rather it be documented and/or semi-legal!

2. When I picked up the Z from the stealership, I noticed that the fuel gauge no longer worked, and was permanently set to about an eighth of an inch above the full mark. In addition, several of the dash and steering column panels were not properly aligned, and the radio bezel was scratched. After almost three months of debating with their service team over the repairs to this damage, they only agreed to realign the panels (shocker). So this leads to my second question; do you think the faulty fuel gauge is a result of improper wiring/connections within the gauge cluster, or will I need to find a used fuel gauge somewhere else and replace it?

(My apologies for the lengthy post. I felt this one merited some background.)
