It would have had to happen quickly, but the connector could have corroded due to several factors - oils, corrosion existing in the connector being freshly exposed to electricity. Maybe it ran fine the first time because there hadn't been much pressurized time on the rail, but the next morning the oring had dripped enough to cause a problem. Did you try pulling the plugs and making sure they weren't wet?
