Was in the process of removing the transmission and ran into an issue. All of the studs broke off that hold the heat shield between the driveshaft and the exhaust (above the test pipes). There are 6 studs the come out of the floor pan and 2 bolt holes for a total of eight to fasten the heat shield in place -- every single stud broke and so did both bolts leaving no way to remount the heat shield using any of the original 8 mounting points. Has anyone ever had to replace these studs? How do they come out? They are fastened somehow into the floor plan in the driveshaft tunnel. All that is left of each one is a rusty nub and there doesn't appear to be any way to back them out like you would with an exhaust manifold stud, etc.
Leaving the heat shielf off is not an option as it will allow direct exhaust heat to melt/warp the driveshaft carrier bearing, also an exposed rubber area of the e-brake cables towards the rear, and will allow more heat to enter the cabin of the Z through the floor tray.
