Message Here is the wiring diagram showing the normal operation,

I highlighted two pathways in red (low amperage) and two in green (high amperage - i.e. the switched side of the relay). As you already know if you are trying to help with this, the lighting switch when you turn it to position two (headlamps on) grounds the switching side of the headlamp relay and closes the relay to turn on the headlamps. Both the power for the switching side and the switched side of the headlamp relay comes from the same fuse for each headlamp.

While the diagram doesn't seem to show the outgoing pathway from the switched side of the headlamp relay to the actual headlamp, it does show the pathway from the switched side to the switching side of the fog light relay. Showing that for OEM wiring the fog lights will only be activated when the headlamps are on - more specifically the low beams only. So the normal circuit goes like this:

Ground - Headlamp switch On - through body harness - switching side of headlamp relay

allowing power to flow to the

switched side of headlamp relay - switching side of fog lamp relay - through body harness - diode - fog lamp switch On - through body harness - dimmer relay (low beam/high beam) - Ground.

An interesting thing I noticed was that the power for the fog lamps goes from the fuse block to the switched side of the fog lamp relay to the fog lamps and then not to ground but to the fog light switch. Not sure what issue there was but this means that when you activate the high beams the dimmer relay interrupts the circuit to both the high side and the low side of the fog light relay. Both sides of the fog light relay are connected together at the fog light switch which also provides power for the light bulb in the switch itself. Now I know why there is a diode in the circuit - it prevents the power coming from the switched side of the relay and keeping the fog lamps on after you have turned them off by powering the switching side of the same relay.

______________

For my Situation, with the day time running light mod, the switching side of the fog light relay is not connected to the headlamp relay but to a wire that gets powered whenever the key is in the ON position.
Can't think of what has happened to get to my current issue.
