| My 91 TT's AC worked great up until the first time I pulled the engine. After re-installing the engine the ac no longer blew cold air. I suspected that having the ac compressor hanging from the lines may have allowed freon to escape. So instead of going through the trouble of converting at this time I decided to see if the R12 system could be repaired. I took it to my dad's shop and first thing we did was suck all freon out. We able to remove only .8 lbs so right away our hopes were up that just re-filling to the correct level would fix things. Next we put a vacuum on the system for twenty minutes and to our surprise it held very steady with no leaks. Now we were really confident that it would soon be working. While, after re-filling to the correct level I still have nothing but ambient temp coming from the vents. I can see that the clutch engages and it stays on. Anytime I use the AC the low pressure pipe in the engine bay is covered in frost. The final readings on the gauges that night were: Low side: 85psi High side: 80psi Air temp that night: ~75 F So I removed the radio and to my surprise you have a clear view of the air mix door. After going up and down in temperature a few times it was obvious that my air mix door was working. When set to 90* the door swung one way and very hot air came out. When set to 65* the door swung the opposite way as expected. The air coming out all though, was just slightly cooler then ambient temp. The door opens very quickly when going from hot to cold. However, when going from cold to hot it opens much slower and in steps rather then smooth transition. Any body care to compare(or maybe you all ready have seen this on your car).
