Message One source of a dying battery is a faulty voltage regulator in the alternator. Another apparently is the passive belt system. What Joe is referring to is the locking mechanism against the seat belt spool. Ever notice how sometimes you can't pull your belt off of you? That mechanism is holding the belt tight against you.

Typically when the alternator fails, you'll see signs other than just the battery being drained. In my case, my ABS light came on, and my voltage read low on my turbo timer.
