| I don't see any way I could position the thermostat housing in the spot it needs to be and attach the pipe at the same time without smearing the RTV on both surfaces. It took some steady maneuvering to get the thermostat housing to sit correctly. Have you ever done this job on your engine? Maybe you could give me some tips on how to do it. I know I cannot install them together as one unit. Because of the shape of the housing, it cannot be installed going downward, hence it needs to be installed from the front of the engine, and if the pipe is attached to it the back end of the pipe will interfere and won't let the piece go in. My brand new freeze/core plugs were leaking and I ended up pulling the engine just to replace those, now it looks like this connection itself was the culprit. What I do not understand is that I originally never separated the two pieces and installed it as one piece, yet it leaked. I have gotten really paranoid about this and do not want to have any leaks again when the engine is installed, that's why I am being extremely cautious about smearing the RTV.
