As 90coupeconversion as stated pearlized paints are a 3 stage paint process and only a good paint shop by someone who is knowledgeable with pearls will get excellent results. The entire car should be painted at the same time, with the same number of coats of pearl shot in the same pattern, and the same number of coats of clear shot in the same pattern, etc. The results will be blotchy otherwise, and very noticeable. 3 years ago I had a white pearlized paint job on an 02 Subaru Outback Wagon that needed one rear quarter panel repainted. The paint shop doing the work shot 5 different samples (one with one pass of pearl and one pass of clear, the next with two passes of pearl and one pass of clear, and so one) on separate paint cards to try and match the rest of the car, a sample was chosen and the quarter panel was sprayed. When the car was unmasked the results were way off. 5 more sample cards were resprayed ...... and again the quarter panel was closer, but not correct. 5 more sample cards were shot and one was chosen and the panel sprayed. This time the results were right on. Each time I even saw the samples and I agreed with the choice selected. Needless to say, there was a great deal of frustration, and far more expense (due to having to strip the panel each time, and then remask the car and respray the panel). My advice is to either forget about the pearlized paint altogether, or get the job done by someone who knows their way around the 3 stage process.
