Message Mine is doing this too. As the rpms of the engine change, so does the pitch of the whine/growl. Mine has been this way 2 summer seasons...noisy but blows ice cold ( 1991 used freon ). How much are we talking about, labor-wise, to have a mechanic change it out for one off a lower mile car ? Also, doesn't it have a clutch ? So if the compressor rotating assembly seizes, won't it free-wheel ?
