| :no I haven't. I've done a lot with cars but have no experience with AC charging/troubleshooting. So if it is low on freon, the compressor won't engage when it should? There is a pressure switch that will prevent compressor engagement if the freon is low I know when it did work last summer, it didn't blow very cold, so maybe it is low. Should I recharge it? That depends. Do you have the skills and equipment to fix your leak and properly recharge it? Otherwise you may damage your system. Is it still R-12, or has it been converted to R-134a? If so, could it be charged with pep boys/autozone stuff they sell now? The retrofit kits sold at pep boys/autozone are crap imho. You need a license to buy R-12, and the R-134a retrofit kits they sell are a crapshoot. If I were you I'd take it to a shop. Otherwise, browse the forums at ackits.com and learn the right way to do it. When I do a retrofit, I flush the old oil from the system and replace it with 8 ounces of POE lubricant, and then recharge with 2 cans of R-134a. You'll need the proper gauge set and a vacuum pump, both of which are available at autozone for free.
