Message Hello to all,
I am new to this forum, as well as a new Z-Fan. I just bought a 1990 300zx NA from a local and was instantly in love. Due to a rear seal leak (which the guy had told me was a valve cover gasket) I have pulled out the whole engine as well as dropped the exhaust and transmisson in order to do so. I have never done this before, to any car, but have always sucessfully done my own repairs (thank god for this site, or I would have never figured it out, I have been told that this car is a mechanics worst nightmare). The engine is currently sitting on a stand, as I am waiting on a water pump, which I have been told to replace when in this situation as well as a power steering pump, which I noticed was leaking and assumed was on its deathbed. Along with all the seals and gaskets to get it to stop leaking and keep it that way for a good long time, what else would you all recomend? I plan on cleaning every componet before reassembly, for the EGR feeds from the Plenum to the valve are completely stuffed with carbon (to the point where there is no hole), as well as replacing the timing belt. Because of the inconveniance of getting this thing out, I would like to know what is the most cost effective way (I am a broke high school graduate planning on attending college in fall) to get the most out of my Z in terms of gas and performance

Second, is a question I have been browsing the internet for a while now, hoping to find answers. I am a skilled artist as well as a mediocre car painter. The paint is in good condition, despite a couple of dings and scratches that I plan on pulling out. also, I have the touch up paint, and I plan on filling in all of the areas that been damaged, most notably the panel covering the air filters, as well as the hood. They are simple nicks from rocks on the highway. I am a perfectionist, and if the engine is going to be as good as new, I would like the exterior to be the same. The side view mirrors and passanger door looks like they are missing their clear coat, because despite waxing it will never hold a shine (although it looks normal when the car is wet) After filling in the scratches and chips with the touch-up, is it possible to wet sand the body with a really fine sandpaper, and re shoot the entire car with clear coat? I am very careful, and patient but too damn stubborn to live with it, and too cheap to have it repainted. Will this work? it seems to make sense too me, as well as a couple other people I have ran it by, but I want to be safe, as well as make it look good, because this car deserves it.

Sorry the post was long, but I wanted to make sure I was clear on the details before I made these decisions.
