Follow the Z1 instructions provided with the kit .They list each step to guide one through the installation process. I mainly want to provide photos and tips from my experience with the installation. I had previously installed an Earl’s 19 row oil cooler so all I had to do was remove the OEM oil hoses and lines and install the bypass kit. Raise and support your Z.
Remove the center panel and your air box or cone filters.
Drain the engine oil and remove the filter. These are the items provided in the kit.
I removed the two hoses at the oil pan and oil tree first. Oil tree connection with hose removed:
oil pan hose connection removed:
Remove the hose connector at the oil filter tree:
Install the provided bolt and washer to cap off the port on the oil filter tree.
Use the provided oil pan block off plug to cap the the port on the oil pan. (Clamp was not part of the kit)
Remove the OEM hoses running from the oil cooler to the metal oil lines.
Once the hoses are removed you can remove the oil cooler, drain the oil from it and refill with fresh oil.
The next step is to remove the metal oil lines. This was the hardest part of the installation process. I had to cut the lines in three places in order to remove them with out a major disassemble on the front end.
Oil lines in front of radiator:
Behind radiator:
One screw holds the lines in the front and can be removed with an extension and 10mm socket.
There is a screw holding the lines on the back side also.
Remove with the same extension and 10mm socket.
Lines removed:
There is a plastic finishing panel between the radiator and frame rail that has to be removed in order to run the new SS oil lines to the oil tree sandwich adaptor. I was able to break a piece off with a screw driver.
Route the new lines through the new opening by the radiator and pull them through and locate the ends near the oil filter tree.
Replace the oil cooler and connect the SS lines.
Install the oil filter tree sandwich adaptor, but do not tighten down yet.
Route the SS oil lines and connect them to the adaptor plate.
There is a factory bracket that is located out of sight on the frame rail that held the OEM oil hoses. I routed the SS Lines through this and also used plastic ties to secure them in place.
Install a new oil filter and oil. Re-install factory air box or filters and the job is done.
Hope this helps anyone that might be planning on doing this MOD.
