Message They're actually both important!! The one that actually moves your car is the torque, with more torque you can move more weight. Horsepower is just how fast that torque can be put out, its sort of like a derivative of your torque.

You could have something with a ton of torque but still doesn't accelerate very fast (such as a semi truck which could pull a whole load of Z's!!!)

Or you could have something with relatively little torque and very high horsepower which accelerates very fast but cannot pull very much weight ( Formula 1 car, which is why its fuel load slows down lap times so much)
