Ok removing the studs wasn't terrible, but I've got a bunch of rust repair to do in the floor pan which isn't awesome. To remove, do whatever you need to do to release the seat rails from the floor. In my case the angle grinder and a dremel were essential. Then I removed all the undercoating from the head of the stud and the plate that holds it under the car. You'll then see two spot welds on the plate holding it to the larger reinforcing bracket, which basically doubles up the thickness of the floor pan. Drill out the spot welds careful to only go through the plate and not the floor. Tap the remnants of the stud from above and out it comes, perhaps with a little prying from below.
