to move back and forth in the caliper. This pushes the pads and pistons back into the caliper and results in a longer pedal throw when you first step on the brakes after a corner. If you've hit the brakes, released, then reapplied the brakes and noticed the second time you needed much less travel, that's an indicator of knockback. On a track compound tire some knockback is pretty much unavoidable because the loads are much higher than what the bearings are designed for. However if you're experiencing knockback on the street there's a good chance your bearings are on the way out.
