without one. It largely depends on what you're working on IMO. I've done plenty of rubbing and polishing on my Z without one. If you're doing it professionally and working on high-ends cars, it's a sound investment. Burn through the clear on a Porsche, Ferrari, or pristine low-mileage Z32 on it's way to BaT and you can likely kiss your business goodbye. Another use for the meters is to detect if panels have been repainted. If one section of the car is notable thicker, the car has likely had collision repair. Many BaT auctions include photos of paint thickness readings for this reason.
