You will need either a standalone, Nistune, or a map switcher. As with anything, there are multiple levels of execution. Depending on how you use the vehicle, full flex isn't a necessity. I have a straight E85 tune and it's been my single favorite upgrade thanks to gobs of torque added to the midrange through added timing, as well as more oomph up top from added boost. I'm looking at upgrading my JCW mini thanks to how much fun the Z has been since making the switch. Highly recommended.
