Chevron Techron is the only off-the-shelf fuel additive I will put in my Z tank, not more than twice every 3000 miles. I see immediate results in that my idle does not skip a beat with Techron in the tank, can't say how that translates into an overall benefit or improvement but that gives me a good feeling. Some fuel additives are little more than kerosene or mineral spirits, and none of them list their ingredients, so there is a lot of snake oil out there. At the AutoZone where I found myself today they were selling the stuff two for one. But I did a cursory check on line and did not see a national sale, go figure. In my toluene article I talk about how "octane boosters" in the little bottles only raise octane maybe a few TENTHS of a point, if at all, i.e. from 92.0 to 92.2 if you're lucky. Fuel additives in general are better avoided, but I consider Chevron Techron to be a special case. For one reason, the same Techron is in Chevron's gasoline, so if you use their gas you are getting the same product. Another point, I don't believe any of their competitors' products are patented like Techron, but I don't claim to have researched this thoroughly.
