Message gather it significantly reduces friction and wear, and therefore, heat. I would say, if you have the budget for it, why not? This is per Import Parts Pro's website regarding adding the coating process:

"Ceramic/Moly Piston Coating
Coating the piston reduces friction and wear, reduces part operating temperature, can increase horse power and torque, reduce or eliminate detonation, and allow tighter piston to wall clearances for a better ring seal."

It sounds like it depends on the application and perceived goal for the vehicle.
