I paid the full registration and was required to do a smog check, instead, my car crapped out so I pulled the engine and fixed it, but since I did do registration instead of no-op, I wasn't mailed new registration this year, and when I went to the DMV to figure it out, they told me I was stuck in processing until I smog the car, and when I asked if I could now do non-op, she said no, not until the car was smoged, and when I asked her what if it took me 5 years to fix it, she told me I would have 5 years back registration plus fees. I was like, that makes no sense, you're doing it wrong. I got tired of arguing with her, so I left. I bet if I went back and got another person I could sort it out, but damn, f.u. DMV
