an indication if it's working properly, is to measure the break away torque of the rear wheels. It's a sealed non-serviceable unit, so you can't inspect it. From personal experience, break away numbers of 40+ ft/lbs indicate a good working unit. Numbers in the 20s and below are LSDs that don't transfer torque from wheel to wheel as they should (ie. In a straight line, leave one stripe down the road in first gear acceleration). The culprit in a poorly working unit is usually fluid that has been overheated, changing it's viscosity, and diminishing it's ability to transfer torque when needed.
