Any shot type media (glass bead, metal media if you use it) will dimple the surface and give it a (slightly) polished looking surface, but is not ideal for bonding top coats. Cerakote/Powdercoat wont adhere strongly to that type of surface. Paint will stick but it wont be as strong. It does work well for anodizing/plating or just cleaning and leaving as a bare surface. If you are painting/coating then choose your media depending on how dirty the parts are. I use black beauty for most hard metals and a mix of black beauty/soda for soft metals, sometimes aluminum oxide depending on the part.
