At the end of the day we're playing with a 30 year old engine design that's heavily outclassed by current tech. Even if you managed to get 30° of timing on both intake and exhaust, it'd still be 2 position, not continuously variable, still have timing belt stretch/variability, port limitations, valve to turbine distance limitations, and so on keeping you behind more modern motors. I've had pretty wild ideas on cool things to do with the VG. Hell, I've looked into cutting a billet VG. At the end of the day though you have to ask yourself if the juice is worth the squeeze, and in my case, it hasn't been. I love the Z, and I love the VG, but I'm starting to come to terms with the limitations of the platform and just enjoying it for what it is. That said, fuckit. It's your car, your money, and it could be a rad project to figure out and execute. You want to do it, have fun. That's half the fun of this site. The cool crazy shit that people do.
