The Z32 5spd trans is getting old. Specialist shops capable of properly rebuilding them are scarce; and parts are drying up. The real fix would be an adaptation of a double overdrive transmission, like the wide ratio T56. You'd save a bundle by keeping the stock 3.69; while being able to cut highway cruise rpms in half.

While double overdrives like the T56 trans are plentiful, albeit expensive, with a huge parts inventory to fit almost any application; and and there are lots of shops which are qualified to work on them. All that's needed is an adapter plate and hardware.

I'd forget about the Nissan six speed box. At 0.79, the overdrive is actually a lower gear than the Z32 5spd's 0.72. Yes it has a much lower set of initial gears, however in order to take advantage of that, one needs to also raise the rear end ratios. Double expense.
