Message What is everyone using for replacement alternators these days? I purchased a new one from Courtesy Nissan (OEM rebuilt unit) that only made it a year and a half before a diode went out. Nissan's warranty is only a year on these. It used to be that the Nissan remanufactured alternators were rebuilt by Hitachi or Mitsubishi and were as good as an original brand new unit. The ones they supply now look like generic auto part store rebuilds just sold at a ridiculous upcharge. My original alternator was still going strong at 24 years and over 100k miles but I replaced it along with the alternator harness as preventative maintenance. The OE diode is NLA through Nissan and I'm not sure whether to get an aftermarket unit and rebuild the Nissan "reman" alternator or just clean up my original and hope that I don't have to pull it again in a year when it finally fails. Are there any other good options?
