After all he spent a couple hours of the dealerships time trying. What if you asked him to do it and he ended up braking more parts that are not available anymore. Who would you think should pay for that? They are there to make money. Not to dick around with alot of what ifs. Alot of the time just replacing a part is cheaper than spending time trying to fix it. Maybe you`re not even able to fix it and have spent more time (which in a company`s view is money) than you probably should have.
I know what you are saying. But being on both sides of the table (both being a mechanic that fixes things and a tech at a dealership) i see the problem with spending time on things you might not be able to fix and maybe have a hard time getting paid for it..
