If they are using laser/"lidar".....then all you are paying for is about 30 seconds advance notice that you are getting a ticket. When a laser/lidar detector is tripped, it is too late, you have been specifically targeted. The only exception is if you are directly behind a car that is getting hit and your detector is catching some of the beam aimed at the car directly ahead of you....possible but not likely. Radar detectors can give you actual warning as a radar gun does not distinguish which car is speeding, the officer has to make that determination, giving you time to slow in *most* instances and let someone else take the ticket
