The block and heads have been resurfaced more than once, to the point that the VIN stamped on the block is gone. i’ve already had 2 oem gaskets fall this year, the first one was likely my fault because I reused the head bolts. The second time I replaced the bolts, chased the threads, and using the FSM I checked the head for flatness using a straight edge and feeler gauge. The engine has never overheated, timing is set 15 degrees BTC, spark plugs regapped, running stock boost with no signs of detonation but still failed. The gasket had swelled between cylinders #3 and #5, I noticed a few hot spots in cylinder #5 so I’m thinking a combination of localized overheating and increased combustion pressure are the issue. I’ve since bored the water passages which should cure the heat issue.
