Message method anyway. It measures dialectic constant and assumes an ethanol content based on this measurement. Reading wideband is more direct and is what new flex fuel cars do.

With e85, you probably won't have detonation. In the early days, people were breaking their engines from adding too much timing because there was no detonation to warn them that they were going too far. I remember reading about the EVO guys bending rods. They learned to set timing by torque readings not knock.
