Even if the car is bone stock, you may need to change out the O2 sensors. My son bought a TT last August (87K miles) and we couldn't get it to pass smog until we replaced the 02 sensors. And since the one you're looking at is a '96 with ODB-II, I believe you have a total of 4 that need to be inspected and/or replaced. (The '90 - '95 cars only have two). If you tow it back (vs, driving), be sure to get a tank or two of fresh gas through the car before getting it smogged. And then be sure you've driven the car at freeway speeds prior to the smog test - the catalytic converters should be well warmed up prior to being tested. As for the ECU chip - just swapping out the ECU chip does not automatically give you more power. The chip swap goes hand in hand with increasing the boost (either via boost jets or a boost controller). There is a wealth of info in the FAQ, and elsewhere by using search. I strongly suggest researching before you start modding the car. The '96 TT's can be modded similarly to the '90 - '95 cars, but ODB-II on the '96 cars can make things a bit more challenging than the other cars. Dave
]Coming back to life soon..... There can never be enough TT's in the family.
