Two different but reputable local machine shops with same end result... Machine shop 1 and Block 1: - standard ARP head and Main Studs - 88mm bore and hone with BHJ torque plate - girdle installed during bore and hone - cylinder taper as much as 0.0019"(bigger at top when heads torqued) Measurements Block 1:
Sonic Test Block 1:
Machine shop 2 and Block 2: - L19 head and main studs - 87.5mm bore and hone with a different BHJ torque plate - girdle not installed during bore and hone - cylinder taper as much as 0.0017" (bigger at top when heads torqued)
Measurements Block 2. Left page both heads and girdle torqued, right page has one head torqued and girdle torqued. Yellow highlight are the ones with not head torqued on that side for the measurement.
Both cases, the taper looks MUCH better when measured without the heads installed. Anyone run into this issue before? What brand torque plate are you using?
