Canada will imprison and fine you if found in possession of a handgun, even in the trunk of your car. The guns are also confiscated and destroyed. There are no lockers or provisions to leave your pistol in the US before crossing.
There is a form to fill out to declare bringing a handgun into Canada but there has to be a reason for your petition. Self Defense is not one. In addition, pistols need to be large and of few bullets. No small calibers, no short barrels no 20-round mags.
