in operation today: [ http://www.ethanolproducer.com/plants/listplants/US/Existing/Cellulosic ] This was at one time thought to be the holy grail of ethanol production. Now I think more people see the good that corn ethanol does for the food chain. The corn ethanol industry takes the starch out of the food chain and leaves the protein and nutrients in the food chain by selling dried distillers grains for animal feed. This removes the "junk food" part of the corn, and leaves a much healthier feed source in the food chain. This revenue stream helps the industry to sell wholesale E85 in Iowa for 60 cents a gallon today. This is with no government subsidies, like the oil industry gets, and more than $1.00 per gallon less than the wholesale price of E0.
