I was talking to the owner of a race alignment shop recently about how I can get more traction. I suggested an R compound tire and 275 40 17 front tires. He said I may not like the turn-in due to my wheels being 9" wide and the tire being on the wide side for that wheel. He said that with the smaller wheel width, the wheel moves more relative to the tire during turn-in. This may make the car feel less responsive. I then asked about wider rear tires and he didn't think the rear would be adversely affected by wider tires...I'm looking at 305 35 18 on my 10" rims, and sticking with 255 40 17 on the front. Any thoughts?? I know the post below kind of got into the issue with wider front tires, so I thought I'd pass along the above.
