Message	If insurance wants to total it, after you negotiate the value and how much they will pay you, then ask what the salvage value is -how much can you buy it back for. You can then retain ownership in your car. It's normally less than 20% of what they just paid you. Depending on your state you may not even have to send the title to the insurance co and will retain your clear title. A Carfax or Auto Check may show damage history but shouldn't hurt the value of you car that much, your insurance may also let you keep full coverage on it. So you get to keep your car, have the funds to repair and hopefully upgrade!
