Message	all of the appropriate C (commercial) and S (service) API ratings for both diesel and gasoline engines. The only drawback I can find anywhere is that if your car burns oil you could possibly damage your catalytic converters (if you have them as PiotrC70 so nicely pointed out above). Here's API's pdf on the subject: [ http://www.api.org/~/media/Files/Certification/Engine-Oil-Diesel/Publications/MOM_GUIDE_ENGLISH_2013.pdf ] My take on it after research: use a multi-grade oil close to that of the OEM recommendation and make sure it has the SL, SM, and SH API ratings on it and you'll be fine.
