Message since 2008. Here in Canuckistan, the add-on fees to a airfare basically double the cost of the flight. The discount airline up here had a $1 flight promotion a few years back to showcase how much the fees added to the ticket price, the $1 fare was about $ 100 by the time the fees were added.

Fees from 2006 Transport Canada document:

-Insurance Fee
-Fuel surcharge
-Airport Improvement Fee
-Security Fee
-Federal Tax
-Baggage fee (new for 2015... you pay for every bag you check and carry-on size and number are severely restricted)

and if you travel outside of Canada:

-Immigration Fee
-Arrival/Departure Tax (what the hell?)
-Passenger facility charge
-Another Security Fee

Most fuel surcharges have now been replaced with a 'Carrier Charge' which is the same amount.

Flying stinks now.
