Used engines are always a risk, but a late model JDM has all the benefits of a later USDM ... VTC, better heads, late style injectors (no fuel rail pr adapters required to use late model injectors), no soft valves, late style cam gears (to send off to BDE) to name a few. And I would also argue that it makes sense to start from this platform if rebuilding.
