There are no comparisons that I'm aware of, but you're right, people concentrate too much on flow. A straight 2.5" aluminum pipe flows great, but it doesn't cool for shit. The point of the intercooler is to reduce the intake temps after the turbo heats them up. The ideal comparison would put the same car on the dyno and place pressure and temperature sensors at the compressor outlet, intercooler inlet, intercooler outlet, and before the TBs. That way you could tell the overall temperatire drop, as well as pressure drop. Part of the advantage of the TDM setup is less piping and less pressure loss.
